SekaN TC Modul with NSG 5100
The goal of this Astrium-led project is to develop a hardware and software system for provision of an autonomous navigation environment for both terrestrial and extraterrestrial applications. The system is based on transceivers which are deployed either manually or automatically in the required operating area.

These then self-calibrate in relation to one another, setting up a local, independent navigation environment. A user is subsequently able to determine his position in this area with the help of signals emitted by the transceivers. Sample application areas include the safe and precise navigation of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) under hazardous environmental conditions and the highly accurate automatic landing of high-altitude research rockets, weather balloons or re-entry bodies

Extraterrestrial application options include the execution of precise landings for probes and the navigation of research rovers on alien celestial bodies.

The project SekaN is supported by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) under grant no. 50 NA 0503
